Before the creation of Edmund Welles, the world's only composing bass clarinet quartet, the waters of a rock-influenced bass clarinet-centric group were tested by this adventurous Trio. These Trio recordings are now available as the 5th release in the "zeroth law Archival Re-release Project": the back catalog of compositions and recordings from reed renegade Cornelius Boots, founder of Edmund Welles.

It was the summer of 1996: I was an advanced classical clarinet student and renowned front-man of a funk band in the college town of Bloomington, Indiana. Compositional doors were opening in my psyche and I was hit by an immense wave of inspiration and enthusiasm as I fully embraced the creative possibilities of synthesizing all of my musical influences and channelling them through my new low C professional orchestral Buffet Prestige 1193 bass clarinet.

Who wanted to join me on this adventure? I enlisted another clarinet student--the only other person to own his own low C bass clarinet--and my trusted drummer and fellow Monty Python nerd. I fully adopted my new persona and shaved my long hair into a long mohawk and the fun began. With the help of fellow audio recording students, most of the creative output of that summer was captured very adeptly and we can listen to it now from quite a long way away in terms of years.

It is my hope to recreate the notation for most of these arrangements and offer them to bass clarinetists the world over. If you would like to help with this project in any way, feel free to send me a note.
